Went back out to do some diagnosis on Steve this afternoon. While rooting around in the engine bay looking for possible electrical problems that would cause

, I found that a wire running to the starter had disconnected. Reattached it and, VROOM, Steve started right up. So it was fairly coincidental that Steve wouldn’t start after the breakdown yesterday.

Which brings me to cause of the breakdown: my lower right ball joint nut is gone. It flew the coop at somepoint and the lower control arm disconnected from the wheel hub. That was probably when the inboard CV joint separated on the right half axle. The lower control arm is scraped up a bit, the threads on the ball joint are shot, and the half axle is done, so I have two new ProForged ball joints and a new Cardone Select right half axle on their way as I write this.
Got Steve towed home this afternoon and I’ll be wrenching away as soon as the parts arrive. It’s is all pretty straightforward work (I replaced the left half axle after a CV joint went out on that side last month) and the parts didn’t cost much, for which I’m immensely grateful. The busted up suspension/drive train didn’t even give us any trouble getting him on or off of the flatbed.
Looking forward to having Steve back to work by the end of the week.
Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and advice last night when I posted about the breakdown. I really appreciate everyone’s help.

I’ll most likely drive it until it dies. I’ve put way too much blood, sweat, and time into that thing to be able to let it go for what it’s worth. :P

Also looks like you put on a junkyard bumper once upon a time? :)

Actually, I think that’s a new bumper (it’s just straight black plastic). It was on there when I bought the thing. It seems to have had a minor kerfuffle before I bought it. Front structure is straight and it tracks straight as an arrow, but the bumper’s been replaced and the passenger side windshield wiper had been mashed into the windshield when I got it.

My civic had a windshield that leaked so bad it dumped water into the cabin when it sat. It was glued not with a continuous bead, but rather in a zig-zag pattern.

Ouch.
I got mine replaced and I’m not impressed with the installation, but it hasn’t leaked on me yet. The driver’s door does, though. I think it just needs realigned, though.

Civics don’t ever die. Figured it had to be the starter! If only mine were a manual, I definitely would have kept it forever.
